Stephen Lawrence

Dubbo_StephenLawrence_Background.jpgStephen Lawrence is Country Labor's candidate for Dubbo in the 2015 state election.

Stephen is a leading Dubbo lawyer with a strong track record in community and legal work, both in Australia and overseas. He has worked as a prosecutor, public defender and legal policy advisor to a reforming Labor Attorney General. Stephen set up the ACT's first specialist sexual assault prosecutions unit in 2009 and previously specialised in domestic violence prosecutions. In 2013 he deployed to Afghanistan for 12months with the Australian Civilian Corps where he assisted in the trials of Afghan's detained on the battlefield. Much of his work in recent years has focused on Indigenous justice issues. From 2004-2007 he worked in Solomon Islands on rule of law issues with the Australian led Regional Assistance Mission.

Stephen is passionate about the "postcode" inequities facing country people and will be a strong local voice for the Dubbo community in the NSW parliament. He believes the best way for the Dubbo electorate to send a message to Macquarie St around electricity privatisation, TAFE cuts and other issues of importance to country people, is to vote Country Labor.
